In the Beginning...
It all started as a deep seated hunger for both good food and good nutrition. My adventures in Vegetarianism and Macrobiotics sparked an interest in the relationship between food and the body, and as an added bonus, I learned to cook. I am still learning. Then my readings of Traditional Chinese Medicine birthed an intrigue in the body~mind~spirit connection and how that pertains to what substances we put into our bodies. These human forms we were given are intricate vehicles which require the utmost care and of course, the most high-quality fuel. A whirlwind later, I ended up at the Canadian School of Natural
Nutrition in Vancouver, B.C. and graduated in 2011 with a diploma in
Holistic Nutrition. I returned home and brought my holistic nutrition education to the South Okanagan. After school, I spent my summer working in a yoga studio, deepening
my practice, thinking about love and life, and putting on "The
Yoga of Eating" workshops in the studio, teaming up with a yoga
teacher. I write my own local food blog. I helped recruit
sellers for the Market on Main (Osoyoos' Farmers Market.) I've taken the
Institute for Responsible Technologies' No-GMO Speaker training
series. I also spent time working on my friends' farms where I can zen
out in the fields. In the fall of 2011 I began my apprenticeship with the
Canadian Association of Holistic Nutrition Professionals (CAHN-Pro) while living
in Penticton, and will be practicing under the director
of my mentor Lisa Kilgour - a Registered Holistic Nutritionist in Peachland. I'm
also the newest addition to a small crew filming the first season of a new TV
series called "Fit For a King - the Renaissance of Real Food" It's a lifestyle show about whole, local foods and wine as well as outdoor activities - all here at home in the Okanagan! See the Links page for more info.
